My perspective of Sg. Lembing Trip (4th-5th June 2007)
One afternoon on 4th June 2007, we went to Sungai Lembing. Jenny was kind enough to give me a ride. We put a night in McLum's grandma's house (free! yeah!). It's a nice wooden house which has a river behind it and surrounded by fresh air and has a collapsed house as one of its neighbour.
The house! zzz...
Yum yum! zzz...
The birthday boy! zzz...
We walked in a circle, passing two bridges, the Sg. Lembing museum. Liuck, Jenny, Tcherry, and I also went down walking across the river to feel the coolness of the mountain water brushing through the naked skin of our legs. It was really a moment to savour. There were a lot of dogs in the neighbourhood, maybe meant as a supplement to the absence of adequate security in the houses. Whenever we went, the dogs barked as if there was no tomorrow and as if we are going to invade Sg. Lembing. The girls were scared and we picked up little stones to protect ourselves, but luckily we didn't have to use them. It's all thanks to the aura of manliness emanating from Tcherry, who is respected to three degrees by the white and the black two sides. When we passed by the cemetery, everybody walked faster and talked less, but suddenly damn Tcherry and Jenny sprinted away, so I just followed them. As expected, the large group caught up with us pretty soon.
When we got back, we had a drink to relax ourselves. Non-alcoholic lah, just grape juice! zzz...
After numerous failed attempts to wake Liuck up, the guys walked away from the wretched sleeping beast. zzz...
In front of an impending break of dawn, but the photographer couldn't capture the magnificent sky behind us so there you go! zzz....
Jenny: Captain! I see the sun ahead of us! Oh noes, we are going to collide with the sun! zzz...
Tcherry: No, you foolish knave! My compass disagrees with you! zzz....
Dawn 4 ! zzz...
Tcherry: Ooh... a pipe! zzz...
Venus Flytrap: Don't eat meeee!! zzz...
We started off the night with a barbecue. Since we don't have firestarters (a.k.a. fire seeds), we used solid fuel to start a fire in the barbecue pits - effective but smelly. Some idiots even tried to use newspaper to light the fire. When the fire started going, we barbecued the stuff that we brought - chicken wings (delicious! marinated by Qi Yuan's mom: thanks), chicken balls, chicken scallops (very nice!), fish chips, crab ball, etc. The girls brought lemon grass to spread butter onto the food but honestly I don't notice any difference in the taste compared to using a brush. I also brought buns and kaya to make some toasted buns ala-Meng Fong. It tasted really good. I'll be bringing that if there is a next time.
We drank the usual soft-drinks. One that stood out was the A&W root beer float which was brought by Jenny I think. Good stuff. The honey drink wasn't that bad either. Kudos to those who brought the honey.

Everyone seemed to forgot it was Tcherry's birthday. In the end, we did sang him a birthday song but no cakes or candles. And he just sat there quietly, barbecuing food for other people.
After eating to our hearts content (or too much), some of us went out for a walk. Let me see: me, Tcherry, Jenny, Zai, WB, Taikor, Xuan, Liuck if I'm not mistaken. Actually it was quite a long walk.

When we finally got to sleep it was about 2 a.m. I was lucky to have forced my way into a bedroom early so I got to sleep on a bed. Those who slept outside (in the hall) have to suffer from cold, but me, no, I slept like a log on the bed until I heard someone screaming "Fire! Fire!" in Cantonese but I slept on until Jenny woke me up at about 5 a.m. Some couples slept alone in a bedroom. Hmmmm...
Soon, we got ready to climb Lembing Hill or Bukit Panorama. But there was one problem. We couldn't wake Liuck up:

Refusing to join us in our hiking trip, we left without him while he continued wandering in his dream world. Besides a minor accident involving car, fume, and collision, nothing much happened between our departure and arrival. It was really tiring climbing up the stairs, maybe because of our lack of exercise. We were sweating profusely and gasping for air when we reached the top, the four of us - Jenny, me, Englishman, and Tcherry. Others were caring and waiting for their loved ones, while Qi Yuan, ahem, I don't what took him so long.
Tcherry: No, you foolish knave! My compass disagrees with you! zzz....

After camwhoring for several centuries and watching other tourists doing their camwhoring, we hiked down the hill.

Next, we had noodles with Yong Tau Fu for breakfast. Genuine and fresh ingredients. Very nice! Then everybody except Tcherry, Jenny, and me went back to the house. Tcherry and Jenny were spending some quality time together AGAIN in some unknown secluded spot so I had to wait for them. We went to Jenny's grandmother(or grandma in-law)'s and aunt's house. They have a vegetable garden and they rear some chickens, fish, and tortoises, but NO DOGS! They even have an orchard behind their house (is it theirs?). All in all, it's a nice place although the road is not very kind toward cars. After the brief visit, (Digression: I don't know what language Jenny used to talk to his grandma), we went back to meet up with the other guys.
After lazing around for some time and discovering some "shocking footage", we cleaned up (acutally not we, I was taking a half-nap) and siam!! zzz...
