My take on PIKOM PC fair

Let's back track a bit for now. On the 3rd of August (2 days before flight to Vancouver), I visited the so-called largest ICT fair in Malaysia in KL Convention Centre hoping to get my hands on an external hard disk as well as to see what it's like in the fair since I've never been to one.

Maybe it's because of the fair, it's took pretty long for me get a LRT ticket to KLCC. It doesn't help that the ticket vending machine rejects 80% of the 1 dollar bills. They might as well make it coins if that machine is too dumb to recognize paper bill.

When I reached the place, there was a huge crowd. There were lots of well-known companies setting up booths - Acer, Asus, Dell, Maxis, HP, Edifier, etc. It's so damn hard to move around and I nearly suffocated in the midst of the maddening crowd. Even if some bugger stopped to check out some stuff, it'd jam the walkway. It's like 3x Petaling Street crowd.

People mountain people sea, what is in front I can't see

One of the main attractions of the fair was the MMs. And in terms of that, it didn't fare too bad. In fact, it might've been the only good thing about this fair.

There were a lot to see, from high-end graphic cards to dirt cheap generic pen drives. Major annoyance award goes to Maxis broadband 'cos they had stalls in every hall and they had like 50 people promoting the broadband service. I think I must've got asked a dozen times already. Anyway I bought a ciplak external HD at RM320, which had to be returned for refund the next day because it wasn't working. It took them about an hour to check that it's defected and they even discovered that several other external disks didn't work as well. Coming from a branch of a supposedly MSC status company, this doesn't bode well for Malaysia's ICT industry. Anyway, here's one "Malaysia Boleh" for you.

Well, my friend said (don't know who dy), nothing special about this PC fair. For cheaper stuff, you can get it from Lowyat, and without the maddening crowd too. How true it is.

On my way back, at KLCC Putra station

Shit. Damnit. Should've bought my return ticket earlier

KLCC = K.L. Complete Congestion
