Good grief!

Since I got my laptop, I've been pondering on which game to try on it - Oblivion, NWN2, or Gothic 3?

I've played Oblivion on my underperforming laptop and even with the heavily impaired graphics I enjoyed the game immensely. I've been thinking a lot about this one, but since I've played it before I thought I'd want to start on something new.

Maybe Gothic 3? I've tried the demo and things were pretty good. Some stutters here and there, jumping motion was still awkward (as always in Gothic series), the game hanged sometimes. But I liked it. Graphics were sweet, fighting animation were fluid, and there were a lot of new items (esp. herbs). I'd like to try the full version but since I'm time-constrained due to studies, I have to make the best choice.

So I turned my eye to NWN2. FYI, Neverwinter Nights 1 was one of my all time favourites. I spent maybe a few hundred hours on the game. I loved the 2nd expansion, Hordes of the Underdark too. 1st expansion was more of a filler too. Before I play any game, I check out the reviews for it. Turns out to be a high score, above 8. But looking at reviews, I saw some really great discrepancy between the user reviews (from 0-10). That's a crazy discrepancy!

So I checked the official forum, and guess what I discovered? In case you're not interested in following the link, there's one post titled "101 Things Wrong with NWN2". Consequent posts on this topic reveal greater details about the weaknesses of this game. Hence my great dissatisfaction. Obsidian has made the sequel to "Knight of the Old Republic" and it's not bad. But it's recycled a lot of materials from the original game and there's no major renovation. I'd say in terms of sequel it's rather mediocre. In NWN2 however, they have fucked up this game for sure. Here Obsidian are given opportunities to work on sequels for great, may I even add legendary, games. The worst they could do is to republish all the same materials with some slight tweaks or maybe some new packaging - new characters, new tweaks, etc. But sadly, Obsidian (incredibly) has gone below worse. True, they've not only removed all kinds of useful, loved-by-NWN-gamers features, but added all kinds of horrendous, ridiculous, buggy features fit for cow dunk and racist rednecks and Michael Jackass. The graphics are not as good as Oblivion, but even a rig that can run Oblivion at high-ish setting couldn't even run NWN2 with serious lags. What the fuck's wrong with you Oblivion? If you're so incompetent, don't even try to touch the legendary games. While Midas has the ability to turn anything to gold, you have the ability to turn gold into poop. And a long and smelly one too!

And this quote from a gamer is marvelous: "We're not your beta testers, you will get no more of my money. Goodbye."

Obsidian should go into Oblivion (pun intended!)
