Church

Religion is important. Sometimes you feel down (because someone messed up your assignment), sometimes you feel lonely (because you don't have people to talk to or people won't understand, even your friends), sometimes you feel afraid (because mid-terms coming up), sometimes you feel tempted to do things you shouldn't do (because you're drunk and the chicks are hot, because your friends feel like smashing up a car just for fun)... You can easily become corrupted. That's why I need to find a church, because religion regulates your life, helps you to find peace in times of turbulence and distress.

Yesterday I went to a church at 10th avenue. It's better than the 2 churches that I've previously visited. I liked the interior design, I liked the music and songs, I liked the pastor. It feels like ACTS Church back in Subang Jaya. Yet, it lacks the warmth. Maybe it's because I'm new, but the church doesn't have a family-like atmosphere. People walk straight out after the service, only a few stay to chat and have fellowship. Maybe it's because I walked out straight after the service... I don't know. But this church is pretty good. If I go there with someone I know, maybe things would be different then.

Just a random thought as I was walking in the campus just now: Why does the given name of westerners come before their surname (a.k.a family name), but for Chinese, the surname comes before the given name? Maybe it has to do with the culture and the way people think. For the westerners, they tend to focus more on individualism, in which the individual comes before institutions (family, society, country); for the Chinese, the institutions come before the individuals (at least it was like this years ago). But I just thought of a counter-argument: what about the Malays and the Indians? Don't they, like Chinese, put more emphasis on institutions too? Hmmm...

This question arised when I thought about my lovely name, Teoh Wei Kee, being reversed to Wei Kee Teoh here. I wonder if perkypie and midget Ben face the same situation in Australia.

p/s: Hat-trick!
